I can see that I will definitely need to become more technology savvy for my students. I feel that using a "wiki" will be very beneficial to my students. I plan to use a wiki when we read The Outsiders, a novel by S.E. Hinton. Instead of the age-old poster project, my students can collaborate to create a wiki (or wikis) relating to each section of the novel--and then have discussions regarding comments, characters, illustrations, etc. The possibilities are limited only by our imaginations.
As soon as I figure out exactly what they are, I will use them. I am disappointed that I am leaving with very little expansion to the limited information I had.
I plan on using this information for 2 of the courses I teach. Thanks for all the info. The pace at first was overwhelming as I knew so little but I feel that I can achieve what I want now. Thanks again.
Communication is what my classroom is all about and since I am constantly looking for fresh new creative ways to excite my students in the subject matter, I am sure that I will be using blogs on a weekly if not daily way. I also will hopefully be finding the time to put together the wikis as well.
I am planning to begin using my Wiki Space be transferring my teacher web pages to the Wiki format. Hopefully this will be just the beginning in working with a new tool for my classes. I am really trying to find a way that this will help in reducing the amount of paper-pencil activities that we have used in the past. Thank you for you expertise.
I would like to create a wiki that would be my classroom homepage. I like the idea of allowing my students to display work, as well as have information posted that can be interacted with.
I will be using wiki with my students for different classroom projects, and team teaching with my partner. I can also access nationwide projects, and we can participate in them as a classroom
I will get students on the web to create blogs, wikis and experience technology at a deeper level. Students need to be exposed to various things and I think this will help them in their education.
I started my wiki while I was in the workshop and created a page for a science animal unit. Eventually, as my students study their own animals they will be posting their information on the wiki for classmates and parents to read.
I plan to incorporate the blogging into daily writing. My students have limited access at home to the internet, so we will find time during the day. I would like to make the responses a part of my assessment.
I have already begun a wiki to publish our social studies knowledge after we cover each unit. This will inform the parents as well as giving the kids ownership and pride in their work. I also plan to use a blog in homework as a discussion board rather than asking each child to discuss a topic with a family member.
I look forward to having students answer discussion questions on my wiki (especially in literacy). Also, parents will be able to see weekly assignments and activities. Students will use their creativity by exploring different website links and posting their thoughts.
My goal is to once a week log on to the class wiki site to create, collaborate, and communicate with the other students/classes that have invited to view my site.
I hope to create a lesson plan using my wiki and incorporating blogs as students complete a project based lesson.
